Is This the Role of a Consultant? Developing Future Sale Skills

Strategically, is this the role of a consultant and what is expected of consultants?

Are consultants supposed to teach, guide, help, and provide advice?

I once heard from an onlooker who sarcastically said that a consultant was “someone who told you what you already knew and charged you for it.” This was obviously sarcasm but seemingly a thought. Now that I have been able to personally contribute in this role, it has built my confidence and proven the sarcasm to be just that, sarcasm.

Rewards are not necessarily only in monetary form, although that is a major reward. With each opportunity to share, I was and continue to be rewarded with an understanding that I helped someone, contributed to their improvement, their career growth, and helped them become more successful. I am rewarded in knowing that my sharing has provided them with more skills, more ammunition, increased their abilities, and furthered their advancement. In doing so, it helped them to better the company’s performance.

It is a personal goal to help develop future sales leaders of tomorrow by sharing my experiences.

Each experience is a learning opportunity for a new salesperson or a reminder to a seasoned sales person. Businesses will always need skilled sales professionals. Helping to develop these individuals will help their careers and help businesses to prosper.
