There are many words in our vocabulary (in English or any language) that frighten us and conjure up terrifying images in our minds. One word that produces this for many people is “Change.” We all have a comfort zone that is derived from familiarity and consistency. For many, to change is to come out of that comfort zone and take a chance in unfamiliar and uncharted territory. Change is often difficult for people to accept, worrying that change could result negatively. They say, “Let’s don’t change, let’s never change.” We do not want to try and adapt because what if we can’t adapt? That would be the end.
Note that the Dinosaur could not change and adapt and today he is extinct. The shark is a fish that has adapted to change and evolved to survive millions of years. It was a dinosaur but it survived because it embraced change. The salamander was a fish but over time and in order to survive, embraced change and adapted to live on land, shedding fins and growing legs.
Change should not frighten us, to NOT change should frighten us. Change is difficult, not changing is FATAL.
The truth is there are 4 things in life that are inevitable.
1. We are BORN
2. We will DIE
3. In most countries, you will pay TAXES and
4. CHANGE
Successful people embrace change and unsuccessful people are afraid of change. Winston Churchill once said, “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.”
In business, we change for the customer because their needs change. If we do not adapt to their changes, they will go to someone else who will adapt to their changes. We change for the needs of the Market because markets are constantly changing, ever-evolving, sometimes slowly but often quickly.
The alternative to change, ie. not change is FATAL.
